Researched, wrote copy, and implemented design for educational graphics using Canva for the Movement Network (TMN). TMN is a California-based nonprofit providing pro-bono physical therapy services to protestors for justice and people impacted by economic hardship.

  • Reminders for better practice: Don't make assumptions based on appearance Be as direct as you can with instructions Don't compare people to neurotypical benchmarks (i.e. making "enough" eye contact) Include transcripts/subtitles for audio/video Attach alternative text for graphics and be sure to contrast colors in graphics Speak up if someone says something abelist Suggest more accessible options for your school or workplace

  • Transgender people, especially transgender women of color, may delay seeking treatment because of negative treatment by healthcare staff; See last slide for references.
  • Avoid gendered terms when greeting such as "sir" or "ma'am," and normalize gender neutral terms like "they" ; Introduce yourself and your pronouns; Correct yourself if you misgender someone ; Include pronouns on intake forms
  • Allied Health Workforce Diversity Act; his bill in Congress could aid physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, respiratory therapy, and speech-language pathology education programs in increasing diversity
  • What would happen if it passed? $8 million per year would be allocated to accredited education programs for community outreach, mentorship, scholarships, stipends, and programming for increasing students from racial or ethnic minority populations, with disabilities, and from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
